Silence ain’t easy

Anyone get the Starsailor reference in the title? No?

Anyways, following in the footsteps of news editor Jesse McLean who previously went on a 48-hour, lemon juice detox diet I’ve decided to test my own will-power in the form of taking a vow of silence last week.

On Tuesday at exactly midnight, my lips were sealed tighter than those of the Go-Go’s and the Duff sisters combined. I planned on staying that way for an entire week.

Vows of silence sucks and are anything but peaceful in a university setting. They may seem to be easy but those who have successfully taken year-long vows of silence live in a monastery on top of some Tibetian mountain where they don’t have:
1) Classes to attend
2) A newspaper to help run
3) People making bets on who could make you talk before the vow ends
4) A journalism degree in the works where oral communiation is considered by some to be quite useful
5) A job

Read more about my hellish experience — the broken heater in the Eyeopener office made the metaphor that much more appropriate — in this week’s Features section. Did I succeed or fail? Find out this Wednesday.

One last note, if you’re still interested in modelling for Love & Sex, please drop by the office to fill out a form or e-mail me at features@theeyeopener.com ASAP.

Oh yes, here’s me accepting six awards on behalf of The Eyeopener at the JHM Awards gala. I’m posing with CUP president Amanda McCuaig in the west block of Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Sunday.
